I used to like Liv Tyler. I thought she was pretty, and coy, and innocent, and generally in all right films. Then I watched The Strangers.
If I could take away an Oscar as punishment for making this film, I would, but because Liv has never won any, I can’t. I can, however, theoretically remove one, so that she is Minus One Oscar (MOO). Should Liv win an Oscar for any other fillum, she will break even and be back to zero.
If you’ve ever seen the most excellent french film Them (Ils), and enjoyed it, and are tempted to watch The Strangers, don’t. Just watch Them again. It’s shorter, better, and less pretentious. It also won’t make your eyes bleed.
To quote Steve, ‘The real terror of this film is that I can’t unwatch it‘.
