review | cashback (2006)

I have a habit of buying obscure, independent films on DVD when I see that they’ve got one of those film festival leafy things on the cover, or when I like the drawings or font on the front. Most of the time I make Steve watch these with me, and most of the time, he is less than impressed with my choice (and secretly, I am too, and I feel guilty, but don’t like admitting I’m wrong so will try and find redeeming points to focus on, like that lady had a nice face, or the music was good, eh?). This time, however, we were both pleasantly surprised.

Cashback is a little bit rude, in that the hero, Ben, likes looking at nudey women, and has this ability to freeze time and pull their clothes off so he can draw them. It sounds a bit weird, but it’s all very arty, fo’ sho’. I really liked the way it was shot too. And it’s got plenty of t and a for the gents, with a bit of a love story for the ladies.

Despite Michelle Ryan (who, in my opinion, doesn’t have a nice face) in it, Cashback does have dead good music.

Rating: ★★★★½
